GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

The continued advance in the English wheat market is most satisfactory, but it wonld have been even more bo had it set in a month ago, as th en a much larger quantity of New Zealand wheat was held on growers' account in London than can possibly now be the case. In hops the advance is likely to be maintained, but we have grave fears that it will not. Locally more firmness has been shown by wheat holders, and although a higher price is asked we have not heard of any actual sales at over last week's quotations of 4s 2d for best grades. Some fair sales of medium quality are reported at 3s 9d. Flour is fairly firm, and will doubtless be held more firmly by millers, should a speculative element set in from the North Island, which is by no means unlikely- Quotations are still .£ll, f.0.b., for town brands, and £lO 10s for country. The demand for eats is a trifle easier, although prices remain unchanged for best samples, which are saleable at 1b 7d. For first-class samples of malting barley there is still an excellent inquiry at up to 3s 6d. but for anything the slightest inferior much lower rateß have .to be accepted to effect sale?. The potato season is now virtually over, and we regret to learn that in all probability many farmers will be compelled to let large parcels go to waste, owing to their inability to obtain a price which would pay them to bag them np. The Sydney market is reported to have fallen to 40s per ton when the last cargo of the Wakatipu arrived. Sutter is quiet, and holders do not care te accept the prices offering. A parcel of 200 kegs is said to have been sold at sd. Cheese is quiet at 4d, and hams and bacon ore unchanged.
