The United States mate 1,000,000 sewing machines yearly, which can do as much as 13,000,000 women working by hand. Some time ago, Lord Aahburnham was willing to sell his invaluable collection of MSS., partly to the British Museum and partly to the National Library iu Paris. These two great libraries could not afford the sum asked by Lord Ashburnham, and he is about to sell his MSS. to the Royal Library at Berlin for £120,000.
