The monthly meeting of this committee was held on Monday evening. Present —Messrs Kevell (chairman), Porter, Mathews, Pashby, and Coup. Letters were read from the Board of Education, relative to the salary of Miss Kauffman, mistress of the infant department, also appointing Mies Hiatt as pupil teacher, also in reference to the master’s house and fencing. Accounts, £1 8s 63, were passed. It was decided to give a holiday on Thursday as many of the scholars were expected to be away at the Oddfellows’ picnic. On motion of Mr Porter, seconded by Mr Mathews, it was resolved that Mr James Kerr be elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr 0. O. Howard. The chairman reported that the secretary of the Board of Education had agreed to the repairs being made after the wind storm and alteration of a gallery. The head master’s report showed that the attendance was higher than it has ever been, viz., on roll, 469; average daily attendance for the month, 333. Afterjsome discussion it was decided that the Board of Education be requested to order an inspection of the school as soon as possible. It was stated that twelve months had elapsed since last inspection. The committee then adjourned.
