CATHEDRAL GUILD.

The annual meeting of the Cathedral Guild was held in St. Michael’s schoolroom, Durham street, last evening at 8 o’clock, there being a very large attendance. Proceedings wore opened with prayer, after which the Rev. the Dean of Christchurch made a few introductory remarks explanatory of the object of the gathering. The progress made in connection with building the cathedral, he said would bo apparent to all, and therefore did not call for any observation from him, particularly as a report on the subject would be presented to the Synod of the diocese, which would shortly hold its annual session. With regard to the operations of the guild for the past year, a report would be submitted, and the meeting would be called upon to elect officers for the ensuing term. The annual report was then read. It was, in the main, of a satisfactory character, although the subscriptions had not come in very freely, owing, no doubt, to the continued financial depression all over the colony. The total receipts were set down at £l2l 5s 9d, including a small amount carried forward from last year. The report then went on to show the amount expended by the guild. The report being adopted, the election of officers was proceeded with, resulting as follows :—President, the Most Rev. the Primate ; vice-presidents, the Very Rev. the Dean and the Hon. H, B. Gresson; committee, Rev. J. W. Stack, Canon Ootterill, Rev. B. G. Penny, Rev. O. Bowen, Messrs E. A. Worthy, R. Evans, F. G. Stedman, J. Ournow, J. S. Jameson, and Dr. Ellis. Mr Dodd was elected secretary, and Mr O. Thompson treasurer. The business of the evening being thus disposed of, the entertainment followed immediately, consisting of readings and recitations selected from Shakespeare, &c., and vocalisation by ladies and gentlemen. The items on the programme were well chosen, and the entertainment proved generally successful. Yotes of thanks were accorded to the ladies and gentlemen who had assisted in arranging the concert and all who had contributed to its success. The National Anthem was sung in conclusion, and the meeting then dispersed.
