HOSPITAL ENQUIRY.
TO THE EDITOB 03? THE PRESS. Sib, —In your report of yesterday's proceedings of the Board of Health Mr Hobbs is made to say that “ I was going homo in a few weeks by the Crusader, and that my evidence in the hospital investigation would be of considerable importance.” I am surprised that such a statement should be made public without first finding out its truth. I now as publicly contradict the statement as being without foundation, at least as far as I am concerned, and can only account for its origin in the fact that Dr. Nedwill is afraid that, after the deliberate stubbornness with which he has prevailed on the Board of Health to get an enquiry held; the issue may be a “mountain in labor giving birth to a mouse.” I can assure Mr Hobbs that I am perfectly ready to give my “ important evidence ” when required, not only for my own sake, but for the sake of clearing away unworthy insinuations which have been publicly and privately circulated against the staff of the Hospital. _ _ Regarding the particular time for holding the enquiry, I fail to see why it should not be postponed until the return of the chairman of the Hospital Board from Melbourne. I urge this as a matter of courtesy and justice to myself, because my own Board has publicly exonerated me from all blame, and I claim it as a right that its chief officer should be present. Yours, &c., W. R. Davies, House Surgeon, Christchurch Hospital.
