COLLEGE BPOEXS. The annual sports in connection with Christ’s College, which were postponed owing to the lamented death of a pupil in one of the houses of the College last week, came off this afternoon, or rather commenced, it having been arranged to make two days of it, for greater convenience, probably, in getting off the various events. The weather was suitable for out door sport, being genial and temperate, and the ground was in very good order considering the almost uninterrupted stretch of dry weather experienced for some months past. There was a good attendance of visitors, a number of lady friends of the College boys being present, and a very pleasant day was spent. The sports commenced at two o’clock. The following event took place before we went to preea : Patting the Weight. Newton, 29ft lOJin ... ... 1 Cotterili, 28ft lljin ... ... 2 Rhodes, 25ft 9iin 3

The competitors were W. Studholme, H. H. Mathias,* E. T. Rhodes, W. Cotterili, W« Webb, O. Newton. There was some good throwing, the competition being keenest between Newton and Cottsrill, the former, however, having a good deal the best of it. In comparison with last year the distance was remarkable, the winner in 1879 only putting the stone 26ft loin, as compared with 29ft lOiin this year.
