PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY.

The Council of this Society of Now Zealand held _ meeting in Wellington on Mon day, September 27th, to discuss various matters in connection with tho society. The membors of the Council present were—o. D. Uarraud, president ; T. Anccll, treasurer ; J. A. Allan, secretary jjW. Fife, H. Brittain, and E. Plummer, Wellington ; J. Edson, Auckland ; Q-. Bennington, Christchurch ; and J English, Dunedin. Tho president having read an address bearing on the progress of the society, tho election of oificers took place. The president, treasurer, and secretary were re elected. The rules and constitution of the scc'ety were considered and revised and oidered to be printed for distribution amongst members. It. was decided to hold the annual meeting of the Council in each of the four centres in rotation, the next meeting to be held in Dunedin. The question of reference libraries was discussed, and their importance generally admitted, in view of the higher standard of education tendered necessary to qualify students in pharmacy and other branches of the profession, and fir. them for passing the examinations required by the new Pharmacy Act. The tr< usurer having reported that sufficient funds wore available, the sum of £BO was voted for this purpose, to be equally divided among the four centres, leaving the question of equitable division pro rata for mturo conaidcralion. Keeping in view the requirements of the Pharmacy Act, which comes into operation ia January, 1881, and the registration of all chemists and druggists then becoming imperative, the Council decided to undertake the registration out of the funds of the scoiety of ell members who shall have paid their subscriptions for tho current year, commencing 30th June last. A vote of thanks was passed to the several gentlemen in both Houses of the Legislature for their cordial support of the Pharmacy Bill.
