Jfl E M A L B J^EFUGE. President —The Primate. Secretaries —Ecv. J. Aldred, H. W. Packer. Treasurer —J. P. Jameson. Committee —His Honor the Judge, YeryEov. the Dean, Itev. C. Fraser, Messrs G. Bowron, W. Pratt, H. Thomson, and G. Booth. When the existing institution was established in 1876 it was contemplated that provision should bo made for the reception of two different •classes of inmates, stingmshod as Class A and B, and thus severally described in the original prospectus:— Class A.—For fallen women not hardened in vice and desirous to retrieve their position. Class B.—For those who. have become hardened in vice but profess themselves anxious for on opportunity of reform. Up to tho present time females belonging to Class A only have been received, the funds at command and accommodation not permitting the extension of the benefits to Class B. The building has been recently enlarged, and the committee can now receive a limited number of the bitter, who hitherto have been unfortunately excluded. Funds, however, ore required for defraying a portion of tho cost of the alterations ; also, for providing furniture for the new wing and other necessary improvements for isolating tho two classes. An appeal is, therefore, now made, both to the present annual subscribers and _ others,_ for special donations, and also to obtain additional names to tho list of annual subscribers, in coneideration of the importance of the effort to provide an opportunity of reformation for the unhappy cases referred to as class B. Instances are frequently brought under notice of the clergy and others where tho advantages of a temporary refuge would bo gratefully Hcccptod, end where, under kind and judicious treatment and Christian influence, there would fae every reasonable probability of effecting a permanent reformation. Tho committee cannot but think it discrestable to a Chrictian community that hitherto no provision has been made for assisting women who lave fallen into vicious habits,_ when desirous of abandoning a dissolute life, by tumbling them to withdraw from the evil influence of bad associates, as a first step towards their reformation. t The committee, having felt it an imperative duty to draw attention to the great need of help in this good work, confidently await the result of this appeal. Gifts of money will be thankfully received by any member of the committee, and clothing or provisions r.t the inntilutijn, Cashel street East. i-23 9832
