CRICKET.
The annual general moeting of the Tapanui Cricket Club was held in St. Paul's Schoolroom or Monday evening. In the absence of the Rev. F. O. Brittain, Mr Amyes was voted to the chair. The financial position of the club was found to bo satisfactory, ueveral now members were enrolled, and it was decided to have the opening match— Married v Single—on Friday, October Bth, at two o’clock. —A match was played on JHagley Park ground yesterday between the Excelsior O.C. and the St. Crispin 0.0., which resulted in a one-innings defeat for the latter. ‘.The scores were—Excelsior—First innings, 5.13, St. Crispin—First innings, 42 ; second, 87. For the former, Wenlook, 19; Harvey, 16; Beckett, 16 ; and Simpson, 13, all played well, while the bowling of Harvey and McLeary was simply unplayable, the former taking four and the latter six wickets in the first innings. Jackson and Empson likewise did well in the second. Turner, with 18, not out, and 13, was the only one to reach double figures on the other side, for which Fowlke and Slinn bowled well.
