KOWAI RIFLE CLUB.

The annual opening day of the club was held at Amberley on Saturday, There was ft large attendance of members, and some splendid shooting was made. The competitors were divided into two classes. The following are the prize takers : First class—l, K. McKay; 2, W. Frew; 3, J. W. Pate ; 4, W. Hunter ; 5, W. Brook ; 6, Hayes ; 7, B. Foster. Second class —1, R. Kemp ; 2, T. Powell; 3, K. McKay ;4, R. McKay; 5, K. Morrison; 6, Hayes ; 7, W. Brock. Tho annual general meeting was held in the Public Library, Leitbfiald. Thera was a fair attendance of members. Mr J. Barclay was voted to the chair. The financial statement of the treaturer showed the club to bo in a most satisfactory condition, with about £7 to their credit. A discussion took place with regard to tho duties of the central committee, and it was agreed—“ That tho central committee be composed of a president, two vicepresidents, and three members from each contingent, whose duties will be to obtain ammunition, arrange field days, and conduct foreign matches.” The following officers were then elected—President, Mr R. Foster; vicepresidents, Messrs L. 0. Williams and D. Stewart; committee, Messrs Barclay, Oameron, Pate, W. Hunter, Prostney, and W. Powell. It was proposed and carried unanimously—“ That in future all persons joining tho club shall be charged no entrance fee in addition to their subscription of 10s.” Mr Brock moved, Mr Pate seconded, and it was carried unanimously—“ That this meeting hearing that Mr J. B. Hunter is about to visit the old country, wishes to express its regret at his temporary absence, and takes this opportunity of wishing him a safe voyage and quick return.” A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close. At a meeting of the committee Mr W. Hunter was elected as secretary and treasurer.
