CHRISTCHURCH WORKING MEN’S CLUB.

A general meeting of the members of the Working Men’s Club was held last evening at eight o’clock, there being a large attendance. Mr Wykes, president, occupied the chair. After some preliminary business, the president read a lengthy statement, in which the short history of the institution since its foundation was given with particular attention to detail, and it was shown that by the aid of the committee the club had, after passing through many difficulties incidental to young societies, sprung into a healthy existence, and would compare favorably with any institution of the kind in the colony, considering how recently it was started. The balance-sheet indicated that the club had a credit balance at the Bank of £149 3s BJd. It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that in future all moneys received by and for the sale of refreshments be kept in a separate account. After some discussion, the report and balancesheet were adopted, and the election of officers for the ensuing twelve months was then proceeded with, with the following result: —President, Mr W. S. Wykes ; vice-president, Mr W. B. Hobbs ; treasurer,Mr J.Gapes, sen.; secretary, Mr T. Y. Whitmore; committee, Messrs J. O. Milsom, W. Ridley, D. 8. Sutherland, J. Niool, T. Hobbs, E. Bose, W. 8. Williams, H. W. Newman, T, Batchelor, T, F. Ridley, R. Cant and J. Anderson.
