THE AUSTRALIAN GIANT.

Tho following pen portrait of G. J. Bonnor, one of the Australian Eleven, is clipped from "Babylon," a new sporting journal published in Melbourne:—" This model young Australian, who is now twenty-three years of age, waa born at Orange (N.8.W.) He is 6ft. 6£in. in height, and is one of the best-made mon ever seen. He is a splendid all-round athlete. As a runner, he can do his 100 yards in 10Jseconds; can throw a cricket ball 130 yards ; a really good swimmer and rower, and a magnificent boxer; but it is as a cricketer I that ho is best known. Ho is one of the famous Australian Eleven now in England, and is astonishing everyone there by hiß grand hitting. He has hit a ball the unprecedented distance of 175 yards, and in nearly every match he plays gets a ' sixer' by driving the ball clean out of the ground. On several occasions he has, by his brilliant play, pulled the game through for his side. He is a splendid field, and a good change bowler. The old adage—'A prophet has no honor in his own century,' applies to him, as in New South Wales he was not considered good enough for the intercolonial team to play against Victoria. Mr H. E. Boyle, when in Sydney in November last, was so pleased with his play that ho selected him for the Australian Elevon. He is the hardest hitter in the world, even the great W. G. Grace and C. J. Thornton having to take a back seat when he is about. In private life he is a quiet, unassuming gentleman, and is a great favorite with everybody. He is a talented musician, sings a good song, and is the best of company. One could not wish to scend an evenirg with a better fellow."
