CHRISTCHURCH HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
An exhibition of hardy primulas, auriculas, and hyacinths took plaoe yesterday in the Congregational Sohoolroom in connection with the above. Though the quantity of plants and blooms staged was not so large as last year some very fine plants were exhibited. Mr F. Jones had a magnificent collection of auriculas, which were well grown and bloomed. All were very fino, but apecial mention may be made of Niger and La Reine. Mr Button's cut blooms of primulas were also fine, especially specimens of hose in hose and a plant of primula verticellina. Mr Reade had some very nice oyclamens, as had aleo Messrs Mackett and Crooks, and Mr Allen some good cinerias. Mr Greenaway exhibited a very good lot of auriculas, prominent amongst which were Alpine seedling and Admiral Hood. The same gentleman had also a fine show of early tulipa, and Mr Allen a collection of intermediate stocks. In hyacinths, though somewhat late for their full beauty, Mr Greenaway had a nice stand of six. It comprised Koh i-noor (a grand spike of pink blossoms), Solfatienne, Belle Blanchisseuse, Charles Dickens (mauve), Anna Oaralina (sulphur), and Gigantea. These were des«.rvedly awarded a first prize. Mr Spicer came second with a nioe lot, of which Ornament de Eoses, King of the Blues, General Havelock, and L'lnnocence were the best. Mr Spicer exhibited some well grown cucumbers and early French beans. The prizes awarded were as follows : Six Auriculas, varieties—lst, J. Greenaway. Six hardy Primulas—lst, J. Dutton. Three Cyclamens—lst, J. Maokett; 2nd do., J. Maokett. Six Hyaoinths, cut blooms—lst, J. Greenaway ; 2nd, H. Spicer.
A meeting of the committee of the Christchuroh Horticultural Society was held last evening in the Congregational Sohoolroom. Present—Mr E. O. J. Stevens, the president, in the chair, aho Messrs W. A. Bickerton, H. R. Webb, O. Marsh, M. Murphy, F. Jones, T. Allen, G. A. Beade, and the seoretary. On the motion of Mr Murphy, it was resolved to hold the meeting of October 21st at the usual place. Messrs Turner and Dutton were appointed judges of tulips, &o. The following arrangements were made in connection with the spring show to be held on November 10th: The secretary was initructed to make the usual application to the A. and P. Association for permission to hold the show in their grounds in connection with their annual show on November 10th. Messrs F. Jones and Secretary were appointed a ground committee. Meesrs H. R. Webb, A. Forsyth (Oamaru), and J. Robaon (Rangiora), judges of pot plants and out flowers, and J. Trounce, J. Low, and H. Bunting judges of fruit and vegetables; Messrs J. Dutton, J. Guntrip, and W. Kerr stewards of pot plants and cut flowers ; Messrs H. Crooks, T. Allen, and C. Marsh of fruit and vegatables.
