CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Board of Governors was hold yesterday afternoon at three o'cloak, in the College buildings. Present—Messrs W. Montgomery (chairman), E. O. J. Stevens, H. B. Webb, 0. C. Bowen, H. P. Lance, F. de c. Malet, B. W. Pereday, H. J. Tunored, J. C Veel, J. Tosswill, J. D. Bnys, B. Wakefield, Bev. O. Fraaer, and Dr. Coward. The Chairman said that the business of the meeting tv«s the consideration oi the reports of the College, agricultural, and museum committees, and also a motion of which _Mr Tanered had given notice at the last meeting, to alter the Standing Orders regulating the monthly meetings of the Board. Mr Tanorod moved —"That the words * Monday' and also ' 3 p.m.' be struck out of Standing Order No. 1." Considerable di cussion ensued, and ultimately Mr P. de o. Malet moved—" That this question be adjourned to the next meeting of the Baard." Mr H. B. Webb seconded the motion, whioh was carried unanimously. The Board then went into oommittee to consider the reports of the various committees. On resuming it was reported that the reports had been adopted with a few alterations, as under: — The College committee report:— 1. The committee recommends that the ex"ibition at present appropriated to Latin and Mathematics thould be appropriated to English, and that now given for J&glish and Greek, or Bo.gli.sh and a modern laagnage, be set apart lor excellence in any two of the following subjects : —Greek, history, political economy, French, German. 2. The committeerecommends that a hall, claaß and Professors' rooms he erected at the we-tern sido of the present College buildings, subject to the estates committee reporting favorably to the Board respecting the means of defraying the cost. The agricultural oommittee report: — 1. The committee recommends the Board that power be Bought to obtain the necessary funda &r the erection of buildings to accommodate thirty students more than at present provided for. The agricultural committee be authorised to make such additions to the Homestead Farm as miy be deemed advisable, subject to the approval of the Board. 2. The committee reeommendi the Board to appoint Mr Strouts architect for the proposed additions to the homestead buildings. 3. The committee having had before, it Professor Hutton's letter of the 3rd September, and the memorandum attached thereto, sees no reason to recommend the Board to alter the decision arrived at on the 30th August. 4. The committee recommends that (3) three photographs of the school buildings framed, be presented to the clerk of works (Mr Hull), accompanied by a letter Bigned by the Hegi3trar, expressing the satisfaction of the Board at the m inner in which he has supervised the work under his charge. ' The museum committee report : The committee recommends the Board that additions should b 9 made to the Museum buildfags at a cost not exceeding .£2OOO, including fittings, removal, and re erection of the Maori house, and that Mr Monntfort be appointed architect for the additions.
