The closing d iys of the week have shown a slight improvement in the enquiry? for goods, which it is devoutly to be hoped will shortly develops into a more prominent demand. Spirits -have shown little badness, mid quotations are without aloerat on An enquiry is beginning to arise for clarets, and a few transactions in the various grades have transpired. One of a line of 150 cases at 12s, rising to 3*B- Holders of this class of wine are firm in their prices, the opinion being that owing to the almost total failure of the present vintage and lowness of quality that batter rates will rule. The season has also brought about a demand for limej nice cordial, and sales have been made at 18a to 19a, according to brand. Ginger wine has been p aced at 21s to 235. Ala and stout do not call for any special r murk, Tens have had only moderate attention. Sugar values remain about the s ime »'• d until the sale of the cargo of Queensland sugar comes off not much will bo done. Soda chry-tals, whiting, and sundry other small linea of a similar cl aracter, are wanted, and fetch full priors. Keiller’s assorted candied peel has bean placed at Is Id to Is l£d, and Morton’s mix.'d at Is 2d. Resin is now coming to hand ex the roioot American arrival, but the market for caustic sod i is still dependent on imports from the Australian ports. White lead ia 2rfli:s is not injover supply. Boi ed and raw oils are quoted at 4s 4d and 4s fid. Castor finds buyers at 4s 3d to 4s fid. Kerosene •is only moving i lowly, and buyers in view of the advanced period of the season purchase sparely English soft s ap iu drums is selling at 455, and a trifle less for cisks. A few sales c f sulphur are noted at 10s, but the demand is of the slackest. Fencing wire has been almost, untouched, the business passing under notice having been almost confined to the sale of small fencing orders. Stocks of American barb wire are almost exhausted. Supplies, however, will shortly be to baud. During the week a rumor gained circulation that the Ocean Ranger, now long overdue from New York, had been burned at sea. The agents of the vessel here have received no special information, and we have further been nnable to trace the rumor to any authentic source. Woolsacks locally have had some business, and boldei s are firm. Corn sacks ■ cannot be obtained under 9s. and the market is now wholly dependent on Australia. COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS.
