CANTERBURY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A special meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was hold yesterday afternoon for the purpose of considering the operation of Ihe deposit of 20 per cent, levied in respect of the general average in connection with the wreck of the Sorata, and also to discuss the necessity of having similar deposits placed to a “ Special Trust ” account. After name considerable discussion the following resolutions were passed : 1. “ That in the opinion of this commit tee it is desirable that all deposits required under average bond from the consignees of goods should bo paid into the hands of trustees.” 2. “That a telegram should bo sent to the president of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, inquiring if the deposit demanded in Melbourne from consignees is to bo paid to trustees or to the shipowners.”
