RIFLE MATCHES.

A friendly match was fired yesterday morning at Cashmere, between the City Guards and a team from H.M.S. Danae, the former under tho command of Lieutenant Wolfe, the latter under Qr-Master Oxenbury. Tho Guards met the Blue Jackets at the railway station at 9 a.m. with a brake, the ribbons being handled by Mr Lewis. Half-an-hour’s pleasant drive brought the teams to the range, and then commenced one ot tho most pleasant matches ever experienced in this district. It will be seen that after the first range the Guards were five points ahead; at the second range the Danae men were seventeen points to tho good, but at the third range tho Guards passed them, winning by five points only. The Danae team fired with the Martini-Henry, the Guards with the Snider rifle. The following were the conditions—Ranges, 200, 400 and 500yda ; five shots at each range ; position, any. Tho scores are appended :

358 A match was also fired between a team from the Danae and one from the Artillery, tho former proving tho victors by 40 points. Over 300 spectators were present, and great interest was manifested in the proceedings.
