SYDENHAM AMATEUR MUSICAL SOCIETY.
The third of the season’s concerts in connection with this society took place last evening in the district schoolroom, and was fairly successful. The room was well filled. Muller’s “ May Day ” was the first item on the programme, and wont with much spirit. Mesdames Edmonds and Bowler’s rendering of “Pulaski’s Banner” was very creditable. “Scenes that are brightest,” from "Montana,” by Miss Hadfield, was done infinite justice to. “The Ouckoo ” concluded the first portion of the programme. During the intermission Mr Pavitt ascended the platform and intimated that the society duoing the cantata of “ Nativity,” pKodbly about Christmas time. In the second part the “ Oarnovalo ” was given with much crispness and precision. Mrs Edmonds was very pleasing in a song entitled “At Rest,” set to music by the conductor, and in response to an encore gave “ The dear little Shamrock.” «xho stars that above ua are shining,” by Weber, was well rendered. This was followed by a song from Mr Edmonds, in which he was successful. “Comrades in Arms,” a chorus for male voices, was undoubtedly the gem of the evening, the various lights and shades being sung with good effect. Miss Bowler presided at the piano with her usual tkil! and contributed very much to the success of the concert.
