CHBISTOHUBOH. Tht/bsday, Septembbb 16. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., B.M.] CiTii Cases. —Hainsworth v Lumb, £4O for carpentering work. Mr Salter for plaintiff. Mr Thomas for defendant. A set-off was put in for £45 10j, for board and lodging and goods supplied : judgment for plaintiff, £3O 17s 6d, with costs, set-off being allowed in £2917s 4d. Binning v Gosnell, £3 ss, amount of an account entrusted to defendant for collection ; judgment for defendant with costs. Hill v B;-ath, £3 17s 6d for services as veterinary surgeon ; judgment for plaintiff with costs. Waldron v Beattie, £l, for loss of time resulting from a collision between defendant's buggy and plaintiff's cab. Plaintiff had been paid his claim for damage done to his cab in the accident, and now sued for a further sum ; judgment for 10i and costs ; defendant handed 10a, tho part of the claim not allowed, to the Mogietrate for the poor box. Murphy v Jackson, £5 15s, on a dishonored promiasory note, was adjourned till this day for production of further evidence. Judgment went by dofault in Crown Brewery v Camp, 12s 63 ; Same v Lane, 13s; Guinoss v Boileau, 10s ; Hill v Drein, £1 3s ; Treleaven v Mollroy, £9 3a 8d; Brown v Same, £66 4j 2d ; White v Samo, £l3 10s ; Postle v Same, £l4 7s 7d ; Same v Same, £l4; and Hale v Canna, £1 16s 9d. On a judgment summonß in Alison v Thomas, defendant was ordered to pay the amount in weekly instalments of 10s, or in default twenty-one days' imprisonment. Latter v Trustees in Pyne's Estate was adjourned till Friday. Fbiday, Sbptbmbeb 17. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., B.M.] Dbttnkbnnbss. —Albert Hewitt alias Chas. Smith, for being drunk and disorderly and resisting the police, was fined 20s. Assault and Robbeby.—John Bushman, arrested at and remanded from Timaru, was brought up and remanded till Sept. 24th. Uncontboixable Chied. —S. 8. Telly, aged twelve and a half years, was oharged with being beyond the control of his parents. His mother said that since his father died she could not manage the boy, who defied all her efforts to keep him respectable, and she was afraid, unless taken care of, he would come to some great trouble. Ordered to be sent to the Burnham Industrial School for two years and six months, to be brought up as a Baptist.
AMBERLEY. Wbdnbsday, Seftbmbbb 15. [Before W. 0. Fondall, T. Douglas, and A. Broadfoot, Esqrs., J.P.'b] Dbtjnkbnnkss.—P. Oostello, charged with being drunk and disorderly and indecent exposure, was sentenced to fourteen days' hard labor. Assault. —B. Johnston was charged with assaulting Mr W. Knight, the Surveyor to the Waipara Boad Board. Mr Joyce for complainant, and Mr Spackmsn for _ defendant. Evidence of the assault was given by complainant and soveral witnesses, and not denied by plaintiff, who pleaded provocation, and that ho had tendered an apology and offered to contribute towards any charity that might be named. Complainant stated, that the chairman of the Board had desired him to take out a summons. Fined £5, and professioual fee and cobls, the Bench remarking on tho cowardliness of the assault on a man in Mr Knight's condition of health. Civiii Cases.—Benn and Co. v Watt, £29 10b ; adjourned for a fortnight, though plaintiff called the attention of the Bench to tho fact thatdefendant was keeping out of the way. Benn and Co. v Cox, £l4 14s 6d. Mr Spackman for defendant. Plaintiff accepted a nonsuit on a legal point. Baillie v Bunting, £9 5s 3d ; adjourned for fourteen days Baillie v Yansen, £9 83 3d; judgment for £4 16s and costs. Colaman v. Turner, £l6 143 ; defendant paid £ll 15s 3d into Court; judgment for amount paid in, and £2 10a costs to be divided. Taylor v Bourdon, £4 ; judgment by default. M'Bride v Wilson, claim £l3 19s lid; defendant, for whom Mr Stringer appeared, pleaded not indebted ; judgment for defendant. Mutton v We3t, £7 14s; judgment for plaintiff. Vaughan and Cordnor v Fenwick, claim £7 43 9d; judgment for plaiutiff by default. Samo v Lilly, £l2; judgment by default.
