A POSER FOR THE WIFE.
The following was left on the dining table of a'gentleman living in one of the centres of population in New Zealand, for the information of his wife, as he was not on speaking terms with her : August 7th, 1880. I want you to carefully study this statement:— i My salary per week is £6. Out of this I must pay, having no option— Building Society, per week ... £1 17 0 Support of my mother, per week 0 7 6 Insurances on house, on the lives of the two boys and myself, and on furniture, per week 0 8 0 Bates, per week 0 3 0 £2 15 6 Whioh leaves per week out of my salary, £3 4j6d. , . iV . This f 3 43 6d ought to be spent in ftnis way:—Butcher, 13a; baker, 7s; groceries, 13a ; milk, 3s 6d; ooal, ss; gas, ss; vegetables, 33 ; servant, 10s. Total, £2 19s 63. Which leaves 5a a week to provide clothos for you, myself, and six ohildren. There is no room for sickness or expenses for any kind of enjoyment.
