It has transpired that Sir Henry Partes acted in defiance of the AttorneyGeneral’s -written opinion that Mr Proctor’s lecture could net be legally interfered with. Interesting to the Banks. The Government has given notice to the Banks of its intention to withdraw £200,000. SYDNEY, September 16. The Order of S-M-G-It is announced that Mr P. A. Jennings, who was Executive Commissioner for the Sydney Exhibition, will be appointed Knight - Commander of St. Michael and St. George, and that Mr John Davies, who was a prominent member of the New South Wales Commission, will be appointed Commander of the same Order.

Breach !of (PrivilegeAn animated discussion took place in tbe tbe Assembly last nigbt regarding an article in the “ Argus” on tbo new members’ elections and tbe qualifications of tbe committee. Mr Fincham protested against tbe article, wbicb be said was a breach of privilege. Mr Berry asked the House to decide whether it should take action to serve as a warning to the “Argus” for all time. Mr Service defended the “ Argus,” and the motion which was before tbe House was eventually withdrawn. Racing. The race meeting in honor of Sir H. Robinson is postponed until Monday. The Totalisator. In the Assembly last night a Bill to legalise the use of the totalisator was read a second time. ADELAIDE, September 15. The ss- Sorata. The Sorata’s bottom is very much crushed. Every effort is being made to stop the leaks, and an attempt will be made to tow her off to-night.
