A preliminary meeting to arrange for this annual fixture was held at McLean's Hotel on Saturday evening, the 11th instant, and was very numerously attended. Mr R. Foster was voted to tho chair. The treasurer stated that the actual balanoe in hand from last year was £2 15s, but fortunately little expenditure would be required on th? course. Mr Coleman stattsd that the course would require some little attention. It wbs resolved that the meeting be hold as usual on December 16th. The election of officers was then proceeded with, it being decided that in order to avoid having too many stewards a committee consisting of an unlimited number should be appointed, and that eight stewards should be balloted for out of such committee. Mr E. Courage was appointed judge ; Mr 0. G. King, starter; Mr H. D. Macpherson, olerk of the course ; Mr A. McDonald, clerk of the scales ; Mr L. O. Williams, hon. treasurer; Mr W. T. Ferrar, hoa, sec. It was resolved to ask Mr Lance if he would act as handicapper, and failing his compliance another well-known gontleman to bo written to. • The following were appointed on tho committee:—Messrs W. S. Moorhouse, Harper, Douglas, Benn, Foster, J. 8011, McNaugtit, Coleman, Greenwood, W. H. Browne, Major, Lewton, C. Ensor, Dr. Preston, Sloper. W. Rutherford,' H. McLeaD, D. Brown, F. Holder. R. B. In district races the term " resident" was decided to mean any person who ha 3 owned or rented property, in the district for three months previous to the race, the horse to have been in the district during tho sime period. A rule providing for any parson nominaticg (except for hack races) being a subscriber to the fund was passed. In order to avoid future disputes, it was resolved that no horse that has been entered for any other race during tho meeting shall be allowed to run in the hack races. The weights for the Ladies' Purse wererevisod and made higher, the programme otherwise being retained as last year. Messrs Foster, Coleman and McDonald were requested to see the course, and report at next committee meeting. A subscription list was handed round, and between £3O and £4O subscribed during the evening. It was resolved to hold the next meeting that day fortnight. After a vote of thanks to the chairman, tho meeting adjourned.
