FRESH OUTRAGE ON THE WEST COAST.
HORSES SEIZED BY THE NATIVES. [By Tbiesbaph.] fPBOM OUB OWN COBBEBPONDENT. I WELLINGTON, September 13. The Government received a telegram this evening that the Maoris to-day seized several horses belonging to the Armed Constabulary, which had strayed on tho wheat sown by tho Natives, whore they had pulled down tho fences ereoted by the Armed Constabulary alongside of the road. They have taken tho horsos to Parihaka. Mr Bryce has started from Hawora for the camp, and is expected there to-night. The complication is regarded as somewhat serious, it being impossible to submit to such a gross and open affront as this. The next news is looked for with much anxiety.
[PBB PRESS ASSOCIATION SPEOIAL WISE.] NEW PLYMOUTH, September 13. Two horses, the property of Mr Quinlan, were seized by tho Natives on Saturday night and were impounded after the Maori fashion. It appears that the horses got loose and found their way to some unfenced wheat crops, when they were caught by the Natives and taken to Parihaka. The owner of the horses went and remonstrated with the Natives, but to no purpose, as tho Natives absolutely declined to give up possession of the horses. The owner will probably send in a claim to the Government for compensation. The erection of tho lighthouse at Cape Egmont has boen commenced by the constabulary, and will prove a great boon to steamers and coasting vessels. The lighthouse is an old one, and has been oonve, ed to the site in seventy-two pieces, each piece weighing hslfa-ton. The men are at present engaged in making a road to the lighthouse from the main road at the camp. The public works contingent have been located at the township of Mania for the purpose of commencing the road from that place to Normanby.
