NEVER TOO LATE TO MEND.
The Rev. Dr. Stanton, contributes to tho "New York Independent," under the head "Conversion of Charles Eeade," an account of tho abandonment of sceptical views by the author of " Never too Late to Mend." The writer states that Mr Reade has been brought to a knowledge of the truth by attendance upon the ministry of the Bev. Charles Graham, of Shepherd's Bush, a Scottish minister belonging to the Baptist denomination, and one of the leaders of that section of English Christians who hold the doctrine of Perfectionism, If we may accept Dr. Stanton's statement as true, Mr Reade is now animated by an earnest resolve to take part in Christian work, and is meditating a delineation of Scripture characters and events. " His pen cannot be at rest," says the doctor, " and, now that it is •inverted, the world msj ere long hear from Charles Reade upon themes to which they are unacoustomed under his guidance." It is added that he has prepared oopious note? for lon autobiography. It will be recollected that another dramatist of our generation, the late Mr Sheridan Knowles, was converted lata in life, and became a Baptist preacher.
