CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
The Preabjtory of Christchurch met in St. Andrew’s Church schoolroom on Thursday, 9th September, and was duly constituted with devotional exercises. Sederunt —The Eev. Messrs. Horner (Moderator), McKee, Cairns, Blake, Cree, Hill, Fraser, Beattie, Hauxwell, McOallum, and Elmslie, and Messrs. G-ibbs and Wilson, elders. The clerk intimated that the congregation of Eangiora had implemented their engagement for separation from Kaiapoi. Mr Fraser, convener on ministers’ travelling expenses committee, reported that the committee does not consider the present time opportune for pressing this additional charge on the attention of the adherents of the Church. But the committee would recommend that the expenses incurred for travelling to inductions and other special services be defrayed by the congregation on whose behalf they are incurred. Mr Hill moved the adoption of the report, and wished it to be particularly understood that only those appointed by the Presbytery to those services should have their expenses paid. Mr Cree seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Mr McKee, moderator of Kaiapoi, reported that according to announcement from the pulpit on the two Sabbaths previous, Messrs Cairns and McKee attended as committee of Presbytery in the Church at Kaiapoi on the evening of Thursday, August 12th. A considerable representation of the congregation was present, and in pursuance of the instructions of the Presbytery a now financial committee, consisting of seven, was unanimously elected by the meeting. Mr Cairns moved the adoption of the report. Seconded by Mr Elmslie, and carried. For the future, the Waikari schoolroom will probably be the most central place for the workmen, as well as for the regular congregation. But a second or evening service might bo found suitable next time.
