ROAD BOARDS.

OXFORD. The usual fortnightly meeting of tho Board was held in the Road Board office on Friday, *rd instant. All the members, except Mr Mullin. were present. The clerk's report was read ard considered, and it was resolved to put iu a ford on the Carleton road at the foot of the hill, on the north side, to take tbo water which at present passes the wooden culvert and flows on towards the Oust, to improve the water table of Brown’s road, and to repair the damage done to the pound cottage by the late wind. The clerk was instructed to inform Mr Baxter that, as there was groat difficulty in dealing with the creeks flowing through his land iu the swamp, and as Mr Stubbs had expressed his willingness to allow the water of she lower creek to pass through his land, provided the whole of the water went down the other creek, and none of it was diverted on Powell’s road, the Board had resolved to fill in the ditch and water table on Powell’s road to tho original level of the land to prevent tho diversion of any water down McJarrow’s road to the lower creek. It was resolved to offer Mr Whyte £3 5s to put ia the ford on German road. The following correspondence was read : —From Mr Qresaon, re land required from the Natives. Xt was resolved that the Board offer the Natives the sum of £8 per acre for tho land required on rural section 18776, the offer to be without prejudice, and the clerk was directed to instruct Mr Qresson to have the notice for taking the land under the Public Works Act gaiattod at once, as the land must be acquired without delay. From the General Government, notifying the payment of £231 Os, the balance of the £IOO,OOO detained surplus land fund. From Mr G. A. White, about fences overhanging the footpaths. The Clerk stated that the fences were being cut. From Dr. Weld, claiming balance of money from sale of a cow out of pound. The amount was passed for payment. From Messrs Lewis and Gould, about stone. From Mr Davies, about surveys, &o. From Mr Ashworth, about storm water on the road leading to his house, which ho stated should pace through Messrs Moßriar’s land. The Clerk to report. From Mr Bunn, offering land for a road on his section where the road is being washed away, the said land to be eight yards wide' and eighty-eight long, for tie sum of £3 10s, the Board to pay all expenses. The clerk was instructed to report us to the quantity of land that will be required. &o. From Oust Board, re Boundary road. From Mr Finlay, about clearing a ditch on tho Boundary road. The work to be done. Mr H. Marsh waited on the Board about clearing a ditch through his land, which carries the water from tho road. The ditch to be cleared. Tenders were opened for the various works, and one in each case accepted, except for filling, &3. t at the junction of Woodstock and Rainey’s road, for which there was no tender. Tho clerk was instructed to write to Mr Thomson, at Carleton, about land required for the diversion of the road. It was resolved—" That in future the labor shall be paid up to the Saturday before the Board." Accounts to tho amount of £164 8s 81 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.

WAIPAEA. The monthly moating of the Waipara Eoad Hoard took placa at the office, Waikari, on Monday, September 6th. Present—Messrs H. P. Lance (chairman), F. Sanderson, W. Patterson, N. O. Wade, The following correspondence was read :—From Mr Blake, stating that ho had been to see Mr McKay’s cuttings, and did not consider they wanted anything done to them, but that the cutting on Mr Cook’s land might be improved. He had also been to look at Mr Tosawill’a cutting, and if the Board were inclined to make it £IOO would be required to form it out of the Waipara. From Mr McMillan, stating that it was his intention to fence in his section near the Board’s reserve, asking the Board to pay half of the expense. They instructed the surveyor to see him and have a proper fence erected, stating that they would pay half the expense. From Messrs Vaughan and Oordner, asking if the Board oonld not pay an account owing to them by a contractor. The Board declined. From Mr W. Parkerson, asking the Board’s permission to erect a mill on the outside section of the two-chain road near the Weka Pass. The Board said that they would grant him it if they could legally do so. From Mr Dunn, clerk of the works, Weka Pars, stating that the railway had diverted the road in several places but they had now been made good and metalled, wishing the Board now to look after them again. From Mr Greenwood, Teviotdale, saying that the month had expired, and that he had not seen the surveyor as promised. The surveyor was instructed to go and roughly estimate the cost, and let the Board know at next meeting. Mr R. Cork and Mr McKay came in to see the Board, stating that they had 600 acres of land and hardly any access to it. After some discussion the Board granted them £6O to make cuttings. Mr Toeawill saw the Board, and was told if he would give the land for tho road they would lay out £IOO on his cutting. Mr Eolleston stated that he should feel much obliged by the grant of about twenty-five chains of land belonging to Mr Moore to make a road to his lard, and that he would give the land to diverge it on the other side of the Waitara, making a much better road than the one now laid off. Mr E Johnson saw the Board relative to tho stone he had got out. The Surveyor stated that there was a considerable amount of small stuff amongst it. The Board told him that they should take 3d a yard off him, to which he agreed. The surveyor was instructed to get a fence erected around the Rood Board house in Horsleydown road. Tenders were then opened and accepted for various works. Accounts amounting to £691 15i 4d were paused.
