CABMEN’S PROTECTION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the above society was hell last evening at the City Hotel, to receive the report of the deputation to the City Council, re the South belt question, Mr Lamb occupied the chair. The deputation reported that they had waited upon the City Council and proposed two alternative plans—“ (1.) That the tramway be altered so as to run between the Terminus Hotel and the cab rank, with shunting rails to the east of the stopping place on the north side of the belt, leaving a clear space between the cab ranks opposite the station for passengers to cross to the tram cars. (2.) That the cab ranks be shifted close to the kerbing alongside the station, leaving sixty-six feet clear in front of the station entrance, the tramway to run on the crown of the South belt, where the present cab ranks are pitched.” The deputation was informed that the proposals would receive the best attention of the Council. Some routine business was tranthe meeting adjourned.
