ROAD BOARDS.
AVON. The Board met on September 6th. Pieseat The chairman and all the members. The reports of the surveyor and foreman of works were read and considered. McElroy's offer to "be accepted for 100 yards shingle. ■The surveyor was instructed to have the footpaths in Caledonian road lowered as Boon as occasion offers. Mr Bligh's offer to give soil from his land was accepted with thanks, tatters were received from the Drainage Board relative to one of the sumps in Chapel street being cut into by the Board's workmen. The clerk was instructed to reply that the road referred to is not under the control of the Board, and they recagniso the desirability of not interfering with the works of the Drainage Board, and will in all future cases apply to thorn to make any alterations that may be required. From the Voatry, Fapanui, ro land for recreation purposes. From Mr Wright re ownership of land. From Mr Pirie, re contracts at Papanui. From the Colonial Treasury, re balance of impounded land fund. From the City Council, enclosing astimatea of cost of forming, channelling, and metalling North town belt. The clerk was Instructed to reply. A deputation waited upon the Board, and urged tho necessity of clearing out the Kapiione creek. Messrs Fleeher, Moor, and Philpott were appointed a* a deputation to go and view the creek. Accounts to tho amount of £142 13s were passed and ordered to bo paid. The Board then adjourned.
HBATHCOTB. The above Board met on Friday last at 10 a.m. Present—Messrs W. Hawker (chairman), J. O'Neill, T. Bruce, and Goo. Dryden. The olerk reported the receipts to be £317 3s 6d. Mr Weavers interviewed the Board relative to the impounding of his horses, and was informed that from the nature of bis complaint it had better be decided by the magistrate. The following correspondence was read and dealt with—Hons. J. Hall and Biohardaon, and Messrs Stevens aud J. T. Fisher, re Canterbury Bivers Amendment Act. Local Board of Health, enclosing extract from medical officer's report re removal of night soil. Ordered to be acknowledged. Mr B. Garland re bridge by McGrinders. To be attended to. Mr H. C. Adams re state of roadandatray cattle. The clerk was instructed to reply that road would be attended to in due course, and call the attention of the pound keeper to the stray_ cattle. Cemetery Board, asking for a grant in aid of tho road. 3Sie Board regret they have bo funds available. An application for remission of rates was granted. Sydenham Borough Council re Ferry road. Ordered to be acknowledged. Same re Wilson's bridge. To be informed that the Board see no reason to alter their previous deoision. The offer of D. Hawkes aa bridge keeper was accepted. After passing ■accounts for £195 lis 3d the Board adjourned.
EYBETON. The monthly meeting was held on Sept. €th. Present—Messrs Wilson (chairman), Wilson, Guild, Pashby, Pairweather, and Hopkins. Lotters were read —Prom Mr O. O. Bowen, stating Eyre flood reserve would be vested in the Board. Prom Treasury, > stating £lB4 7s lid, from surplus land revenue, was placed to credit of the Board. Prom Mr Marmaduke Dixon, asking for another outlet for drainage of Edmunds' road, instead of cleaning out present drain. It was decided to reply that the drain mußt be cleared as tendered for, to prevent the road being flooded. Mr Cone, auctioneer, applied for use of the pound for a monthly sale of stock. It was decided to aooode to the request, arrangements to be made with the poundkeeper; 20s to be charged per month; half to go to the poundkeeper. Prom Mr J. Butt, stating ho had 2000 -willow cuttings which he would plant at Eyreton at lis 63 per 100. It was agreed to *coept the offer. A petition was received from Mr B. White and other ratepayers, asking for certain work in the Plains subdistriot. It was decided the requirements referred to be carried out. The surveyor of the Mandeville and Rangiora Drainage Board attended in referesoe to payment to that Board of a balance for formation of Pearson'u road. It was decided to pay the amount on receipt of a letter from the chairman agreeing to raise the bank on the south side of main drain from Plaxton bridge to north branoh of the Waimakariri to the same level as the south bank, this to be the next work done hj the Drainage Board. Mr K. Evans sgked the Board to assist in erecting an embankment above Ooutta' bridge. It was resolved to contribute half, provided the whole cost did not exceed £l2O, or not exceeding £6O, to be paid by the Board, the work to be done to the satisfaction of the district surveyor. Mr J. 8. White asked leave to put a pipe across the Oust road, and for shingle on the Tram road. Agreed to. It was decided, in accordance with the general wish of residents, to requeßt the Commissioner of Bailways to allow the trains on the Eyreton line to run morning and evening instead of at midday. It was resolved that Mr Sharp bo requested to have the dog chained on South Eyre road removed. It was decided to hold a meeting of ratepayers interested in the drainage distriot on Priday, to consider the question of altering the boundary. It was deoided to invite tenders for a number of works. Tenders were considered for cleaning Threlkeld's -willow drain, for gorso on North road, to form and shingle Ooutts' bridge road. Accounts £6Bl 2s 4d were passed.
MOUNT SOMEHS. The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Road Board office, Mount Some™, last Monday. Present— Messrs W. O. Walker (chairman), D. -Cameron, T. E. Taylor, and A. E. Peaohe. Prom Mr Wm. Reynolds, requesting the Board to re-form and metal the road fronting his section. Granted. From the Ashburton County Council, re the site of pound. The surveyor was requested to make a re-survey, and to inform the Council of the result. Prom the same, enclosing a copy of resolution passed by the Council re the Mount -Somers railway. From tho same, enclosing account for half cost of construction of bridge over tho South Ashburton. The olerk to reply that, owing to tho Bask book not being to hand, the Board must defer the payment of their share until next Bitting. Prom the county engineer with reference to the approaches to Taylor's stream bridge and other matters. The surveyor stated he had had the necessary work done as requested by the engineer. From the obief surveyor, re gravel reserves in the -district. The surveyor to send a list of sites suitable for the above purpose. A petition was received from Mr Alexander Hewson, and seventeen others, asking tho Board to -complete the contraot on Hewson's road, to be reported upon. Prom Mr Thos. Simpson and seven others, urging upon tho Board the necessity for forming a road from section 5288 to Graham's road, to bo reported upon. The surveyor's report was read and considered. It was decided to invite tenders for fords and repairs on the West Coast road. Metalling 100 chains, more or less, Reynold's road. Making cutting at Maofarlace's terrace, and for a valuer for the district, in accordance with the Rating Aot, 1876, Amendment Act, 1879. The surveyor was directed to have a plough-furrow drawn on the different roads in No. 1 ward, to guide travellers where the roads are unfenced. The clerk wsb instructed to write to Mr Gerard, and also to the chief •urveyor with reference to the survey of a road round the Black mountain. Tenders were opened and one accepted for each of the following works:—No. 21, Atford Forest road, Hewson and Cook, £25 5a 4d ; No. 22, Sawmill road, Jas. Ross, £4O; No. 23, Tramway Reserves road, Donald Forbes, £9. No tender was accepted for No. 2i, Black mountain track, owing to their being too high. Mr Walker resigned his seat as chairman, expressing it us his opinion that the chairman of the BoaTd should reside in the district. He thanked the Board for their kindness in requesting him to continue to net as thoir chairman at a previous meeting, but thought it advisable that tho chairman should live near the Board's offices. Mr Taylor proposed, and Mr Cameron seconded, that Mr Peache be chairman. Mr Peache thanked the Board for the compliment paid him, and consented to aot in that capacity. The pay-sheet, amounting to £530 Is, having been paesed for payment, the Board adjourned.
