THE LIGURIAN BEES.

At a special meeting of the council of the Acclimatisation Society, held yesterday afternoon, it was resolved to hand over the care of the Ligurian bees recently received from San Francisco, to Dr. Irvine, as president of the Canterbury Apiarian Society, the stock and progeny of the bees to remain the property of the Acclimatisation Society, In connection with this, Dr. Irvine exhibited the tongues of the common black bee and the Ligurian, which, under the magnifying glass, are found to he exactly the same length, thus contradicting what has hitherto been supposed to bo the case—viz., that the tongue of the Ligurian bee was the longest. The council have determined to send to San Francisco by the outgoing mail for three more hives of the Ligurian bees.
