ASHBURTON RACING CLUB.
At a meeting of the above club, held lost Friday evening in Quill's Commercial Hotel, Ash burton, Mr Hugo Friedlander presiding, the secretary submitted a report in which it was stated that during the year the club paid £3OO 59 in added money, £ls 8s 91 on permanent improvements, leaving a debit balance of £22, The ground bad been gazetted as a recreation ground, instead of a racecourse, and the committee took action to have the title altered. The Government eventually placed the ground under tho control of the County Council, who granted tho club a lease of it at an annual rental of £lO, that sum to be expended on planting. A sum of £SO waa voted to the club by the Co'ancil for planting. On the motion of Mr Crisp, it was resolved " That a vote of thanks be accorded to the County Council for the assistance they had given the club, and & special vote of thanks to Mr E. G. Wright for his efforts on behalf of the club in the House of Bepresentatives." It was also resolved, " That the debts of the steeplechase committee be paid by the Kacing Club, and that two days' meetings be held in November." The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President, Mr E. G-. Wright; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. O. Walker and John Grigg; judge, Mr M. Stitt; stewards, Messrs. E. J. Coster, Neil M'Lean, J. Carter, C. J. Hawdon, B. Friedlander, L. E. Corsbie, James Scott, W. Saundora, J. Hunt, Hay T. Smith, D. Cameron, Dr. Bibs, C. H. Dowding; treasurer, Mr O. O. Fooks ; clerk |of the course, Mr E. Saunders ; clerk of the scales, Mr E. E. Wright; 6tarter, Mr Niel M'Lean ; secretary, Mr Wilkie ; committee, Messrs. Crisp, 8. Saunders, Quill, Digby, Jaeobson, J. Scott, J. Carter, P. Standish, W. B. Denshire, N. M'Loao, T. A. Winter, E. 8. Coster, B. Patton, M'Ooll, B. Pullar, J. E. Taylor, J. Jackson, H. Moffat, J J. Dawson.
