THEATRE ROYAL.

The concluding representation of “ Tried and True ’ ’ was given last night, when there was a very excellent house. To-night a new Irish drama, adapted from a romance of Ireland by Mr W. Reynolds, is to replace “ Tried and True.” “ The Sprissaun ” is redundant with sensational and comic incident. Lanty, the sprissaun, Anglice (filly fellow) is a strange mixture of song, humor, and a half-savage sense of justice ; his motive in life seems to be to carry on open war with everyone wickedly disposed. Ho fights for the virtuous at the moat critical juncture, and makes blundering jokes when everybody else is bowed down with grief, and he watches over the destiny of a farmer's daughter, Edeen, whoso father is murdered by a bloodthirsty villain, Jack Doran, because Robert Nolan has refused him his child for a bride. The murder is attempted to be fastened on to Oroohoro na Bil Hoge, an illegitimate son of the dead farmer. After the committal of the deed, Doran employs Micky McOraw to sot fire to the farmhouse, and carry off Eileen. But the perpetrators are frustrated in the latte' part of their scheme by Lanty, who heroically rescued the girl from the flames after vanquishing the villains. The play then is devoted to the task of tracing the murderer and bringing him to justice. The piece has been w?ll mounted, a very effective fire scene being amongst the sensations, and Mr Willis has also painted some excellent scenery for it.
