BENEFIT PERFORMANCE.

On Friday, the 24'h of September, and the following evening, the members of the “Lyttelton Times” Sick Fund Society will make their second annual appeal to the public on behalf of the funds of the society. The entertainment to be given will consist on this occasion, as it did last year, of a dramatic performance, the pieces chosen for representation being Byron’s splendid comedy of “ Old Soldiers,” and the excellent farce of “To Paris and Back for £5.” The very favorable impression which the amateurs created on their first appearance is likely to be more than sustained in the coming performance, as we learn that the rehearsals which have been held for a considerable time past have discovered a singular fitness on the part of the leading "artistes" for the work they have undertaken. Apart therefore from the worthy object of the entertainment the audience may look forward to a thorough evening’s enjoyment. Mrs Hill, Mies Arethusa May, and Miss Bessie Vivian will assume the lady characters, and in their hands they will be ably interpreted. A large number of tickets have already been disposed of, and the success of the undertaking is almost assured.
