General Roberts has decided to attack Ayoub Khan at Argandab to-day. CALCUTTA, September 2. Latest from Afghanistan. Further intelligence has been received from Candahar regarding tho negotiations

which were commenced between Ayoub Khan and General Roberts. The former wrote a letter in an apologetic tone saying he had been forced into hostilities with the British. General Roberts* replied, demanding the surrender of all prisoners and the unconditional submission of Ayoub. These terms the latter would not accept. Ayoub Khan is now entrenched at Umsajh, and has partly forced on hostilities with our troops. PARIS, September 1. The Jesuits in France. The leaders of tho Jesuits have offered to secularise their colleges and other establishments, and declare that they will abstain from mixing in politics.
