PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
[from oitb own correspondent.] WELLINGTON", September 1. The prorogation duly took place this afternoon. It was an unusually tamo uninteresting affair, and passed almost unnoticed by tho general publio. Only seventeen members of the Lower House were present, namely, Messrs Hall, Atkinson, Rolloston, Oliver, Dick, Grey, Fox, Stevens, Beetham, Bunny, Tole, Whyte, McDonald, Trimble, Speight, Konny, and Gibbs. The formal assent of the Governor was given to the West Coast Settlement Act and Appropriation Act. All other Acts passed this session (eighty in a'l), will be assented to excepting the Daceased Wife's Sister Bill, which is reserved for Her Majesty's pleasure. Seventy.two Bills were withdrawn. The Royal Commissioners for Prorogation were as I telegraphed last night they would be, viz :—Messrs Fitzherbert, Whitaker, Whitmore, Waterhouse, and Johnston. All was over in a few minutes, and members separated with evident gratification that the session was over. It has lasted just three months and four days. From what I hear it is probable that tho next session will not meet before June, so as to give as long a recess as possible to get things into order generally. Ministers will begin holiday making immediately, Messrs Rolleston and Dick going South on Friday, and the others in turn as soon as possible. When they have had a brief period of rest they will assemble again in Wellington, probably about the end of the ourrent month, to organise a regular scheme of operations for retrenchment, reorganisation of the Civil Service, &o. It is understood that the recess will see some very extensive changes in many directions, some of which are hardly even suspected as yet.
