THE DRUIDS.
The usual meeting of the Pioneer Lodge was held at their Lodge-room, Wellington Hotel, on Monday evening. There was a large attendance, including several visitors. Two candidates were initiated, and two were proposed. A.D. Bro. J. Harris, presented P.A. Bro. F. Williams with a P.A. diploma in a handsome gilt frame, speaking in eulogistic terms of the manner in which he had worked for the good and the advancement of Druidism in Canterbury. P.A. Bro. Williams, in replying, thanked tho brethren for the handsome present, and said he would still continue to work for the cause of Druidism as he had done hitherto, and a present like the one he had received that evening would be a further incentive to go on. A long discussion took place in reference to forming a benevolent fund in connection with the Lodge. Ultimately, it was postponed till next Lodge night. D.P. Bro. Swinnorton announced that the Atholutan Lodge would be opened on tho following Monday evening. A subscription was raised for a brother of the Hope of St. Albans Lodge, who was recently severely injured at tho Woka Pass. The Lodge was then closed in due form. —The final general preliminary meeting in connection with the Athelstan Lodge was held at the Royal George Hotel on Monday evening. D.P. Pro. Swinnerton occupied the chair, and said that the dispensation for the Lodge was on board tho Rotomahana, which would arrive in the course of a few days. The secretary stated that there were seventy-seven names on the list of proposed members. It was decided that the committee should meet on Saturday evening next, and that the Lodge be opened on Monday next at the Primitive Methodist Ohurob,
I Phillipatown. A hearty vote of thanks concluded the proceedings.—A meeting was held at the Halswell School room on Saturday evening. P. A. Bro. F. Williams occupied the chair, and called on A.D. Bro. J, Harris to explain the objects and benefits of the Order, which he did at some length. Several of those present signified their intention of joining the new Lodge. The majority of the meeting considered Halswell a better place for a Lodge than Spreydon. A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, and the meeting adjourned until Thursday at Halswell, instead of at Spreydon on Wednesday, as was originally intended.
