CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, Septembeb 1. [Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., 8.M., and J. D. Enys, Esq., J.P.] Dbunkbnness. —D. Gray, alias MoKillop, and Mary Ann Kirkwood were fined 20s, A woman for a first offence was fined ss. Defrauding the Railway. Norman McDonald was charged with travelling in a first-class carriage from Lyttelton to Christchurch without a ticket, and refusing to pay >n~a fare. Fined 10s and Is cab hire. Stealing prom a House. —William Allington was brought up charged with having stolen from a house in Ellesmere 7a in money and a clock valued at 255, the property of J. Harris. Mrs Harris deposed to missing the money and clock after a temporary absence from her house. The clock was afterwards given up to her by the landlady of the Selwyn Hotel. H. Hinchcraft, of the Selwyn Bridge Hotel, proved that prisoner offered the clock to him for sale, and which was refused. Witness afterwards found that prisoner had left the clock behind him at the hotel. Prisoner said ho was drunk at the time the theft was made. Sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labor. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, Sbetembbb 1. [Before Joseph Baswick, Esq., R.M.] Leaving a Vessbli. —Louis Hornett, cook of the Sissy, appeared on remand, and agreed if he got his discharge to forfeit his wages. Order made accordingly. Drunkenness. —James Thomson, charged with being drunk, was fined 10s. Civil. Oases.—Hinett v Deare. Adjourned case for rent and possession of promises. Plaintiff stated that he had received possession of the house. Judgment was given for amount claimed, £l4 Bs, and costa.
