BENEVOLENT AID ASSOCIATION.

The usual weekly meeting of committee was held at eleven this morning at the Old Post-office. Present —His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch, Messrs W. E. Mitchell (bon. sec.), W. H. Hargreaves, John Olliver, H.W. Packer, J. G. Hawkes, W. Pratt, and H. Thomson. The Mayor reported the bank balance to be £34 7a 61. Ho had received a donation of JE2 from “Alpha,” and also had much pleasure in informing the committee that Mr George Gould had, with his wellknown liberality, presented £lO worth of drapery, and requested him (the Mayor) to select the necessary articles to that amount from Messrs Badchffe and Joughin’s establishment. In company with Mr W. B, Mitchell and Mrs lanes ho had secured very good value. Mr Birstead had remitted an account duo to him of 16s as a donation. The sum of 4i was found in the donation box. The caretaker’s report stated that, in addition to the foregoing, Mr Hansmann had given a ton of coals, and Mr Clark, of Kilmore street, had sent some second-hand clothing. Goods had been received from :—Messrs Ballantyno and Co., 2 rolls flannel ; Hobday and Co., S6l- yards calico ; Mr J. T. Brown, 2 tons coal; Messrs Hopkins and Co., Langdon and Judge, Hall and Oousens, Bosowarne, Culliford, and Greig and Moore had supplied stock moat during the week. The week’s relief had been: —Coals, 23 bags, potatoes, 17i bags ; flannel, OG yards ; boots, 23 pairs j blankets, 13; calico, 53 yards ; oatmeal, 31!ba.; rice, 131bs; sago, 251ba ; bread, X3£ 4lb loaves and soup, 14 gallons daily ; also a quantity of grocery and clothing. The relief sheet showed :—lst relief, 14 ; 2nd do., 10; 3rd do., 6 ; 4th do., 10; sth do., 7 ; 7th do,, 1; Total, 48. The house expenditure was £2 12s 2d. The requirements wore—Coals, rice, oatmeal, flour, barley, and peas. The report was adopted. Accounts for £lB 10a 6d were passed for payment. It was decided to apply for a list of the men who had refused to accept piece work on the different Public Works, with a view to prevent their imposing on the association for relief, and also to advertise that it would be useless for the parties so refusing to expect any aid from the association. The meeting then adjourned
