[eeutee’s telegrams.] LONDON, August 27. Afghan Affairs. The “ Standard ” this morning publishes a telegram reporting that serious defections are taking place from the troops of the new Ameer, Abdur Rahman, in favor of Yakoob Khan’s party at Ghuzneo and of Ayonb Khan at Candahar. The Prince of Wales-I A report is current at Plymouth today that the troopship Serapis is to be fitted to convey the Prince and Princess of Wales to Melbourne, and that a detached squadron and the Bacchante will accompany their Royal Highnesses. Hurricane in Jamaica. A telegram was received to-day announcing that a terrific hurricane has passed over Jamaica in the West Indies, and has caused great damage throughout the island. Thousands have been rendered homeless and are starving. In the port of Kingston forty wrecks have occurred owing to the force of the storm. The Irish Constabulary. In the House of Commons last night a Bill regulating the stowage of grain cargoes was read a third time and passed. The House then proceeded to deal with the estimates, and on the vote for the Irish Constabulary being proposed, the Home Rule and other Irish members opposed it on the ground of the military character of the Constabulary force. A long and excited debate followed; the Irish members vigorously obstructing the passing of the vote. Tho discussion lasted during the remainder of tho sitting which did not close until noon to-day, when progress was reported, and the Honse adjourned. The debate will be resumed on Monday next. It is announced that no information has reached the Government regarding the report published by the “ Standard ” of defections from Abdur Rahman's troops to the ranks of Takoob Khan and Ayoub Khan. The Australian Eleven. The cricket match Australians v Eighteen of Stockport, was resumed to-day. The former continued their first innings, which closed for 75 ( sic ) runs. The Homo team then went in for their second innings, and scored 153. The Australians went to the wickets for their second innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day, had made 30 runs without the loss of a wicket. Jarvis had to retire hurt when he had scored G The Wool Sales. At the wool sales to-day, 6700 bales wore offered, making a total of 88,400
catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale was quieter. August 28. At the wool sale to-day 8300 bales were offered, making a total of 96,700 bales catalogued since the opening. Tha tone of the sale had a quiet tendency. Hares and Rabbits Bill. In the House of Commons, the Hares and Babbits Bill has been read a third time. The new Burials Bill has passed through Committee. The match between the Australians and Eighteen of Stockport, at Stockport, was concluded to-day, when the latter won the match by 118 runs. CALCUTTA, August 27. Mutiny in BeloochistanNews comes to hand that a mutiny has broken out among the troops of the Khan of Khelat, in Beloochistan, and orders have been given for a wing of one of the Highland Eegiments stationed at Quettab to proceed to the assistance of the Khan without delay. It now transpires that the news received to-day regarding the mutiny among the troops of the Khan of Khelat is greatly exaggerated. Siege of Candahar Raised. According to the latest news from. Candahar, Ayoub Khan has withdrawn his force to a position eight miles to the west of the citadel, and has thus virtually raised the siege. It is believed that this is due to General Roberts’ advance towards Candahar. CONSTANTINOPLE, August 27. The Tnrko-Greek FrontierThe Ambassadors of the Great Powers have presented the Porte with a second, collective note, declaring that they must refuse to discuss further the line of demarcation of the Greek frontier as fixed by the Conference.
