CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, August 26, [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.j Dbunkenness. —For being drunk and disorderly, a first offence, two men wore fined ss. Miry Ann Kirkwood, an old offender, was fined 10s, or the usual alternative. Dbbebtion. —Thomas Richard Abel was brought up for deserting from tho ship Fiji, now lying at Lyttelton, was remanded till September 7th, to bs brought up at Lyttelton,

Disobeying an Oedee. —George Leaoh, brought up on warrant, charged with neglecting to pay £1 per week for the maintenance of his wife and family, eaid hs had paid two instalments on the day before. There being £7 still in arrear, accused was ordered to pay 30s per week, secured by order on his employer. Failing this, to go to prison for three months. Dog Steading. —Fred Lane and John Minto were brought up for stealing two dogs, one chain, and one collar, the property of J. Watson. W. Billiard deposed to purchasing the dogs from prisoners. Minto strongly denied having anything to do with the stealing of the dogs, and cross-examined the witness rather cleverly, to show that ho merely carried them for the prisoner Lane. The latter pleaded guilty. There being two previous convictions for larceny recorded against him, the Magistrate said he felt disposed to inflict the full penalty prisoner was liable to, but as he had a wife and family to whom he was some little service, the sentence would be of one month’s imprisonment, with hard labor. Minto was discharged.

Extension op License.—An extension of license was granted to J. W. Morton at his hotel for tho complimentary dinner to-night to Mr Blwin.

Civil. Cases. Judgments for plaintiffs were given in Barnin v Cronin, 18s; and trustees in Wood’s estate v Boegel, £2. Judgment went by default in Morrow, Bassett and Co. v Bradshaw, £ls 17s 6d; same v same, £32 Os 3d ; Bain Bros, v Lee, £ll9s ; and, Standard Brewery Co, v Brown, 10s. P. and D. Duncan v Taylor and Manning and Co. v Willingham were adjourned till September 2nd.

LYTTELTON. Thubsday, August 26. [Before J. T. Rouse, Esq , J.P.3 Labcehy pboii the Dido. —Henry Belmont alias Eingshine, charged on remand, was further remanded until tho 3rd proximo, bail to be enlarged.

An UndesieabXiß Oustosibe.— -Peter McKinnon admitted creating a row in the Railway Hotel. The landlord said accused came to his house on Wednesday at 7 p.m. drunk. Ho put him out, when McKinnon turned on, and used foul and abusive language. Pined 20s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.
