Rana declined to put up fences, and declined to send his wife to Parihaka. AUCKLAND, August 22. Accidental Death. At the inquest on Delaney, who was kicked on the head by his horse, a verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned. NELSON, August 20. Retrenchment. The Nelson Education Board held a special sittirg all yesterday, to consider what reductions iu the salaries of teachers were necessary in cona-rquenca of the reduced vote, and also to readjust salaries. In the aggregate over £I2OO were taken off the salaries of teachers, inspectors, secretary, &c. The broad principle of 10 per cent, reduction was kept in view, but in certain cases this was exceeded, and in others, evidently underpaid in comparison, no reduction was made. The head money system was entirely abolished, as was also payment of travelling expenses to members of Board.
