[rETTTER'S TELEGRAMS.] LONDON, August 19. New Zealand Loans. Five per cent. New Zealand 10-40 loan, 104£; 5 per cent. New Zealand loan, 1889, 104; 4 i per cent. New Zealand loan, 1879 to 1904, 100. Reserve Power of Issne. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £16,500,000. Wool Sales. At the wool sales to-day 11,000 bales were offered, making a total of 28,500 bales catalogued since the opening. The tone of to-day's auction was animated. Skins and Hides. There is a steady demand for tanned skins and hides, and prices are OJd dearer. The Australian Eleven. The Australian cricketers play against the All-England a three days' match at Kensington Oval on the 2nd or 6th September. The match between the Australians and eighteen of Scarborough, at Scarborough, was commenced to-day. The Home team went first to the wicket, and were all disposed of for 170 runs. The Australians then went in for their first innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had lost seven wickets for 33 runs.

August 20. The cricket match, Australians versus eighteen of Scarborough, was resumed today. The Australians continued their first innings, and were all disposed of for 96. The Home team then went in for their second innings, and were all out for 96, when the stumps were drawn. Boyle, for the Australians, bowled splendidly. The Australians now require to make 171 runs in their second innings to win the match. Irish. AffairsPreparations are being made for numerous land agitation meetings to be held throughout Ireland on Sunday next. The Markets. Best Australian beef tallow, 345; best mutton tallow, 35s 6d. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 355. New Zealand wheat, ex ship, 455. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,000,000 quarters. Wool Rising. At the wool sales to-day, 9300 bales were offered, making a total of 37,800 bales catalogued since the opening. There was: a better demand, and good qualities generally are now realising about the same as last sales. No Special Laws. In the House of Lords to-day, the Right Hon. Earl Spencer, Lord President of the Council, admitted that the existing agitation in Ireland was dangerous to the peace of that country, but said it was not intended to propose any special laws to deal with the difficulties ; the present common laws are deemed sufficient for that purpose. August 21. Still Rising. At the wool sales to-day 10,700 bales were offered, making total of 48,500 bales catalogued since the opening. Tone of sale was animated. Crossbreds, to Id lower than last sales. Hares and Rabbits Bill. In the House of Commons, the Hares and Rabbits Bill has passed through Committee. General Stewart has arrived, and is quartered at Jellalabad. General Sir Frederick Roberts passed through Ghnznee unopposed, but reports say that Mahomed Nassim kept hovering on his flank during the march. General Phayre has started with his relief force from Khojah. ST. PETERSBURG, Aug. 20. Supreme Commission Abolished The Supreme Commission, which was appointed by the Czar in March last for the maintenance of the peace of Russia, has now been abolished.
