VOLUNTEER PARADE.
TO THB BSITOB OF THB FBBSS. Sib,—Seeing a paragraph in your paper of this date, inferring that the non-attendance of certiin companies at last Saturday's parade was due to some mistake, I think it well to state that Buch was not the case. The commanding officers of oompanies considered, and I think rightly so, that in the face of the order from head quarters calling a parade for the following (next) Saturday, it would be, to say the least, an act of discourtesy to Colonel Packe if they called their men out at any other day preceding. The members of the company that did parade did so on the orders of a subaltern, without reference to his commanding officer. Yours, &c, J. G. Wabnbb, Captain Commanding Ohristchurch Engineer Volunteers. Ohristchurch, August 17tb, 1880.
