Educational Economics; Tne Education Board, at its meeting today, determined on the following reductions in the salaries of teachers and officers of the Board—£loo to £149, two per cent.; £l5O to £lO9, four, per cent.; £2OO to £299, six per cent.; £3OO and upwards, seven per cent. The bonuses to teachers and allowances to committees were reduced fifty per cent., and

allowances were reduced to actual travellingexpenses. Mr Lumiden gave notice that he would move at the next meeting—" That in the opinion of this Board the reduction of the Parliamentary Tote for Education, by the sum of ten shillings per pupil, being the amount hitherto allowed for division amongst school committees for ordinary school expenses, is practically a departure from the soheme of free education, and, being to r they consider that such a change ought to have been accompanied by a legislative enactment, making substantial provision for enabling sohool committees to raise by an annual capitation charge, or otherwise, a sum equal to the cost of ordinary school management.
