MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

[Before J. Beswick, Esq., R.M., and T. H. Potts, D. H. Potts, and J. Ollivier, Esqs., J.P.’s.]
Deunk and Disobdeblt. —F. R. Ohilcott was fined 20s and John Warra like sum, both men having been previously remanded to gaol for medical treatment. Civil Cases. —King and Co. v Messiter, claim £1 13s 9d; judgment by default. Same v James Preece, claim £l4 19s 9d ; judgment for plaintiff. Same v George Roberts, judgment summons for £-1 10s 3d ; ordered to pay within one week or go to prison for one month. Thompson v Black, Davies, and Co., claim, for detention of cutter Hero, £7 7s ; Mr H. N. Nalder for plaintiff, Mr J. Joyce for defendants. William Thompson, master of the vessel, stated that the detention arose out of a refusal by the defendants to pay the freight claimed by him upon a cargo of timber, whereby ho was delayed for two days—August 12th and 13th—in getting the cargo discharged ; plaintiff had loaded at Picton but had refused to sign bills of lading, ho alleging that they were incorrect to the extent of several thousand foot under measurement.
