GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

A fair amount of business is reported during / the week. For good samples of milling wheat 4j is obtainable without much difficulty; but for anything tho slightest inferior, n considerably lower figure has to be accepted to lead to business. It is very satisfactory to find that the efforts made by shippers this season to find other markets for our wheat than London have to some extent been crowned with success. Tho Hereford’s cargo, which waa shipped by Mr C. W. Turner, has been sold for Antwerp, and the Pleiades’ cargo, shipped by Messrs Koyso, Stead and Co., has been sold for Dunkirk. These are, we believe, the first large cargoes of New Zealand wheat which have gone to the Continent, and ws trest they will give every satisfaction to the purchasers and induce a further enquiry for our wheats. Oats of good quality continue in excellent demand, and fine milling samples meet with buyers at up to la 7d; feeding grades are without much animation, and sell at about la 3d. Barley of really good duality is in fair demand at 3s to 3a 3d, but for lower grades prices range from Is 6d to 2s 3d, according to quality and condition. Potatoes are easier, and sales are made at 22s 6d, with no great anxiety oa the part of buyers to operate. We are informed that tho large stocks of this esculent recently held in the railway sheds at Lyttelton, have been reduced to a minimum. Batter is quiet, and cannot be quoted at over 9d; the same remarks apply to cheese, which is sailing at 4d. Hams and bacon ore is limited enquiry at 9Jd bare.
