The Afghan WarIntelligence has been received from Afghanistan that a large body of Pathans attacked tho British garrison at Kachmadan, but wore repulsed aud pursued, and a severe loss inflicted on them. LONDON, August 16. The Markets. Three per cent. Consols have declined i, and are now quoted at 97J-. New Zealand securities were unchanged at last quotations, viz., Five per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 103£; Five per Cent. ISS9 Loan, 103 ; Four and a-half per Cent. Loan, 1579-1904, 99|. New Zealand wheat, ex ship, is quoted at 465, being a decline of Is. Adelaide wheat and flour have also fallen, the present prices, ex warehouse, being, wheat 47s 6d and flour 35s 6d. Australian tallow remains firm, at 34s 6d for best beef, and 36s 6d for best mutton. The Australian Eleven. No arrangement has yet been come to for a match between the Australian cricketers and an All England Eleven. August 17. Afghan Affairs. In the House of Commons to-day, the Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, in reply to a question, stated that he disbelieved the report of an entente cordiale existing between Abdur Rahman and Ayoub Khan. Owing to the Great Powers not consenting to any change in the Turko-Groek frontier as fixed by the Berlin Conference, Turkey lias asked for twenty-four days' extension of time to further consider the question as regards the settlement of tho rectification of the frontier.
