STREET NAMING IN SYDENHAM.
The question of re-naming the streets of the Borough, of Sydenham has been one of considerable difficulty, owing to tho fact that any such task as that undertaken by the committoo appointed to deal with the question is all too intimately associated with a task whioh no one was ever yet known to succeed in, namely, that of pleasing everybody and offending none. In this cbbo Or. Joyce was one of those not pleased, and he re-opened the question at last meeting of the Council, talking on the subject for a considerable time. The debate lasted till ten o'clock, before which, however, Beveral of the Councillors had re tired to consult their respective " calumets of peace," and the objective member was all but left in possession of the chair, solus. The question then fell through, as, owing to a standing order of the Council, no business o'juld be proceeded with after ten o'olock; and inasmuch as no one moved the adjournment of the debate, it is not probable that the street naming business will bo again ra- t ferred to.
