BENEVOLENT AID ASSOCIATION.

The meeting of the general committee was held at 2 p.m. to-day. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Packer, Ollivior, Pratt, Morton, Hswkes, Mitchell (hon. sec.) and Hargreaves. The Mayor requested that the balance ia favor of the association was £96 16s lOd, including a donation of £5 from Mr G. W. H. Leo. The Mayor reported that Mr Hobday had presented, with his usual generosity, a box of children’s wincey ccats. Accounts to the amount of £49 9s 4d were passed for payment. The report of the caretaker was road. He reported that donations had been received at follows during the week, viz. : from Mr Young, the market, vegetables; a lady, 10 flannel petticoats, 24 yards wincey, 23 yards check dress piece ; Mr Harris, 30 pairs boots ; Mr G. Gould, 12 pairs boots ; a friend, 21 strings and 1 bag onions ; anonymous, X sack turnips ; Messrs Hobday and Co., 10 cloth tunics (boys’) ; a friend, 14 pairs boots ; Mr Bishop, half bag onions ; etock of meat from Messrs Hopkins, Boaotrarne, Hall and Oouzens, Culliford, and Gray and Moore. The relief given during the week had been as follows Coals, 35 i bags ; potatoes, 16 1 bags ; flannel, 77 yards ; boots, 33 pairs ; calico, 83 yards ; blankets, 9 pairs ; blankets, single, 3 ; oatmeal, 30 lbs; rice, 43 lbs; sago, 15 lbs; flour, 36 lbs; 11 flannel petticoats ; soup, 17 gallons; daily bread, 13 41b loaves do, and some clothing. The relief given had been—lst application, 12; 2nd do, 26; 3rd do, 9 j 4th do ; 14 ; sth do, 10; 6th do, 2; Bth do, 1; total, 74. The committee then proceeded to consider certain applications for relief.
