POETRY.

HOW A PAPER IS MADE. "Pray, how is a paper made?" The question is eßsy to ask, But to answer it fully, my dear, Wore rather a difficult tnsk; And yet in a bantering way, As the whip-poor-will sings in the glade, I'll venture a bit of a lay, To tell how a paper is made. An editor sits at the desk, And ponders tho things that appear To be claiming the thoughts of the world— Things solemn, and comic, and queer; And when ho has hit on a theme He judges it well to parade, Ho writes, and he writes, and he writes— And that's how a paper is made.' An editor Bits at bis desk, < And puzzles his brain to mate out' " Telegraphic," so squabbled and'mixed, It's hard to tell what it's about. Exchanges aro lying around, While waiting despatches delayed, He clipß, and ho clips, and ho clips—> And that's how a paper is made.

Reporters out in the town, In search of the things that are new— Tho thingß that tho people have done, The things they're intending to do— Go peering and prying about, For items of many a grade ! He tramps, and ho tramps, and ho tramp.i— And that's how a paper is made. And all that those workers prepare, Of every conceivable stripe, Is eent to the printer, and he Procoedeth to stick it in type. His lines, all respecting his will, In Blow-moving columns parade— He sticks, and ho sticks, and he sticks — And that's how a paper is made. In short,' when the type is all set, And errors cleared up more or lees, 'Tis " locked in a forme," as they say, And hurried away to tho press. The pressman arranges his sheets, His ink gives the required shade, Then ho prints, and he prints, and he prints— And that's how a paper is made. " Mark Lane Express."
