MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at tho Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary altera* turns) as under: — SATURDAY, AUGUST 14. For the United Kingdom, Continents of Europe and America, West Indies, China, Japan (via San Francisco), Sandwich Islands, Northern Ports of New Zealand, &c., per Taiaroa, as follows:—Ordinary letters, at 6.30 p.m.; late fee letters, at 7 p.m.; books and newspapers, at 6 p.m,; money orders, at 4 p.m.; registered letters, at 5 p.m.; guard’s van, 8.15 p.m. train. This mail will be due in London on September 28th. TUESDAY, AUGUST 17. For Otago and Australian Colonies, per Te Arum, at 1.50 p.m.; late fee letters, at 2.10 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. For Northern Ports, per Hawea, at 3.15 p.m. ; late fee letters, at 3.25 p.m. ; guard’s van, 3.55 p.m, train. The next mail for the United Kingdom, via Brindisi, will close at Christchurch on August 25th, at 7 a.m. Mail will he due in London on October 16tb. A Post-office has been opened at Elgin, in the district of Ashburton, from Ist August. HSDNET J. DICK, Chief Postmaster.
